For Laplace

The title of this work refers to the Marquis de Laplace (1749-1827), a French mathematician and astronomer.  Laplace described a hypothetical intellect which could know the past and future of everything by virtue of the fact that it knows the speed and direction of every particle in the universe at any given moment. These works are a tribute to this discredited theory of determinism which became known as Laplace's Demon.
