Text By: Richard Dyer
Photography: Tessa Angus
Paperback, 64 pages
Published by All Visual Arts
ISBN-10: 1907164006

Price £20.00

The Descent of Man is a collection of images from the May 2009 exhibition of the same name.

Focusing on ideas of religion, creationism, mythology, and science,Lenkiewicz engages in the elaborate project of 're-sequencing' (borrowing the term from geneticists) the existing language of images into a new and fantastical visual syntax. In the manner of a nineteenth century naturalist such as Darwin, Lenkiewicz catalogues the varieties of iconographic experience - grafting together multiple images to produce startling hybrids of a disturbing and uncanny new order of 'species'.

Published by Other Criteria
ISBN-10: 1904212190

Radiations is the first publication on the work of rising artist Paul Fryer. The relationship between visual art and science is at the heart of Fryer's eccentric but highly engaging body of works: "An artist like P.A. Fryer is as much a throwback to the enlightenment of the 18th century as he is prescient of the new." Fryer's scientific inquiry, his visual awareness of popular cultural icons, combined with a sense of a poetic pieta gives his work a definite sense of the now.
